Analog and Digital...

What is the difference?

Today’s cellular communications can be categorized in two areas- analog and digital. The analog system in North

America operates on the 800MHz frequency. The principle of the system is the same as broadcast radio- your conversation is sent through the air using continuous radio waves. While many existing mobile phone systems in North America are analog based, digital is becoming increasingly popular.

In digital transmissions, your speech is converted into the ‘ones’ and ‘zeros’ of computer code. Unlike the continuous transmissions of analog, digital transmissions are a combination of on/off pulses of electricity. Digital communication can ensure greater data security and user privacy because encryption methods can accompany the message.
